Algehele informatie over dit festival en over de wedstrijd in 2006.
Saturday was the finale of the incredible international fireworks competition held annually (since 1990) in Vancouver's English Bay. The HSBC Celebration of Light is a four night event spread over two weeks and features some of the best fireworks companies from all over the world. All the firework displays are choreographed to a musical selection of the designer's choice.
The Celebration of Light is among the biggest and most important firework competitions in the world and is the largest musical fireworks competition around. Consequently, fireworks manufacturers use the event to feature their newest firework techniques.
The Competitors: This year four companies representing their countries competed (instead of three as in previous years). Italy was represented by A.P.E. di Parente Romualdo, China was represented by Jiangxi Province Lidu Fireworks Corporation Ltd., The Czech Republic was represented by Flash Barrandov Special Effects Ltd., and Mexico was represented by Lux Pirotecnia, S.A. de C.V.
In addition, on the final night a six minute finale was included after Mexico's show which was choreographed by Jaroslav Å tolba from the Czech team.
The Logistics:
Each team presented a 25 minute fireworks display over English Bay for the entire city to enjoy. The event is seen by people from the beaches surrounding English Bay a well as from a large number of boats which anchor in the bay. This year estimates of attendance were 350 - 400,000 per night.
The fireworks are launched from a floating barge in the middle of the bay which allows a variety of effects including very low fireworks at the water level to complement the ones high above the water. The preparation for each show typically requires a sixteen person team three days twelve hour days to complete.
